Season 2008 In-House Softball Information

Age Requirements:
The LAA Softball age year runs from January 1st to December 31st. The division the child belongs to is determined by the child's age as of December 31st of each year, and by the child's ability to safely play at that level.

Softball Divisions:
LAA has a softball program for girls beginning at the age of 6. At this age all girls can opt to play baseball in the co-ed Midget Baseball Division, or they can register for the girl's softball Midget Division. All 5-year old children must participate in the In-house T-Ball Division described in the 'Baseball Divisions' section above.

Midgets Softball - This division is for 6 and 7 year-old players. Coaches pitch to their team. Each child will receive a trophy at the end of the season.

U-10 Softball -
This division is for ages 8, 9, and 10 year olds. To make the U-10 Softball Division, all 8,9, and 10-year old players must attend the U-10 tryouts and be drafted by one of the managers. All 9 and 10 year olds will play in the U-10 division. Those players age 8 that are not picked by a U-10 manager will play in the Midget Softball Division.

U-12 SoftballThis division is for 11 and 12 year-old players. To make the U-12's, those players ages 11 and 12 must attend the U-12 tryouts and be drafted by one of the managers. All 12 year olds will play in the U-12 Division. Those players age 11 that are not picked by a U-12 manager will play in the U-10 Division.

U-18 Softball - This division is for 13 to 18 year-old players. To make the U-18's, those players ages 13 through 18 must attend the U-18 tryouts and be drafted by one of the managers.

The Softball Division follows the official Babe Ruth softball rules with some local LAA changes.

Softball pre- Season:
Practice generally begins in late March or early April. Opening Day is usually in Mid-April. Our in-house season is scheduled to end in Mid-June.

Softball In-House Try-Outs:
All children between the ages of 8 through 18 in the softball divisions will be scheduled for try-outs in Mid-March. Each family will be called about one week before and notified of their child's try-out time.

LAA Softball Fields:
The Midget Softball teams will play between the Maple Point School Fields and Community Park fields. U-10, U-12 and U-18 Division Teams generally play all their games at Community Park.

Softball Schedules:
Practice: Each team will be assigned a practice time and location for practices before the regular season. This schedule usually is one weeknight and a Saturday/Sunday timeslot. Once the regular season begins, practices are held on a "first come-first serve basis" at a LAA field.

Softball Regular Season:
Teams in each division usually play twice a week - one weeknight and one Saturday game (except on Holiday weekends). Regular season schedules are usually not available until one or two weeks before Opening Day.

In the event that the number of Softball registrations is low, LAA will field teams for inter-league play with other local softball programs. This is done so that the players will still be able to play a variety of teams, while still participating on an all-LAA player team.
